Just Came back from guitar center cherry hill New jersey. I was talking with one of the sales reps there and he said that "rickenbacker dosent like our 30 day return policy. Like, If you buy a Rickenbacker and then return it the next day, they want us to sell it as a used guitar and not new"

it is technically used!.....anyway

They had a few things their

on the vintage wall they had a very strange Rickenbacker 340 from 1966....but their was something odd about it....the upper right horn had the remnants of some type of switch plate on it

They also had a Jetglo 330 (750$)

and.......An Ibanez 4003 copy complete with Bolt-on neck for 399$

A 330 for $750. Thats about £360 roughly. An average used 330JG in a UK store would be at least double that if it was rough as old boots & probably around £800/900 if it was in decent condition!!!!!

This in response to the ebay ad in which a customer asked why the original bridge was taken off and a bad *** added instead and was told they the originals couldn't be adjusted:

You asked:
"They lied to you, of course the originals are adjustable. Don't believe everything salesmen tell you in music stores!"

oh. well it still has that bridge. About 10 years ago I tried to order a Rickenbacker Bridge from guitar center. They dsaid they could do it and then jerked me around for about 3 months until I gave up.

When I bought my 360 from Guitar Center of East Brunswick, NJ, I was told I wouldn't be able to return it, as per Rickenbacker's policies.
Of course I was never even slightly tempted to return it, as it was a great guitar.

I got my Fireglo 330 for $750 on eBay last October, you don't really see 'em for that cheap anymore.

Wow, they told me that about a hundred times and always complaining about it even saying that it stopped customers from buying them. Crooks.

Ill-informed? It is their job to BE informed. If this is the case, then the assistants who made these claims are at worst deliberately misleading & at best, poorly trained amateurs.

I don't know which is worse....

Yes I had heard that repeatedly by a salesman who had been there for at least three years and who had been there before they instituted that policy. I was told repeatedly that RIC would not accept returns and that that policy was hurting their sales, and was Rics fault bla bla bla lie lie lie. This news seals it, I'm outta there for good.
And I had bought several Rics and other things from this guy and thought I could trust him, haha! They got a lot of my money. I don't even crawl in there anymore, it's one of those places where you have to wipe your feet on the way out obviously.
CROOKS!

From now on I will only got the GC to try out stuff but not to buy from them.

Tony, I understand their outrage, and the whole thing outrages me, too, hence my long rant about services disappearing!

The GC here in SF is FILLED with thrashers and poseurs. It's the definition of cacophonous HELL. And except for one manager who's a Rock Survivor and does try to take care of biz, the staff are clueless and the managers are lazy.

Paul,

How long have you been in SF? Do you remember when GC was on Van Ness around Bush St? I used to go their when I was in high school. They were the most patronizing group of people. They were very intimidating to a high school freshman. I've always resented them for that. I don't think I've stepped foot in a GC since. The closest I came was when they moved to S. Van Ness and Lawrence Juber was going to be teaching there. That was a tough decision.

Brian, I've been here a couple of years only, but do remember the GC being there, from frequent visits to SF in the past. Never went in though.

Just last Fall they located to Van Ness between Sacramento and California. They are ALWAYS packed, it seems. Two blocks from my office, so I stop in for picks and look to see if any effects are on sale. So far I've only bought small stuff there and then I get out ASAP.

I understand from John Ashfield that the hot tip is Rocker Guitars in the Mission. But parking is such a hassle there that I haven't checked 'em out yet.
