If one looks in the live at the bbc sessions cd booklet....in one of the pictures...johns guitar clearly has no orange (or any) label....
This could mean a number of things....
John Did this to differentiate his guitar from georges......
and....there is a gibson J-160e that used to belong to john lennon somewhere in the world that it missing its tagger.....
Thoughts please

John's Gibson J-160E
"This is my personal quote"
AFAIK John and George's J-160E's were built in 1962. These did NOT have the orange labels. George's estate still has this one (the one in the Beatles Gear book). It's probably this one that's in the BBC booklet.
John acquired a second J160E (to replace the first one above that was stolen) which was built in 1964 and has the orange label (plus a couple of other minor differences). This is the one seen in HELP! and later painted and then stripped, etc.
Aside from the orange label, another way to tell the 62 apart from the 64 is the rossette - the 62's is single and the 64's is double.
I'm sure others with more knowledge will now chime in...
