I've really had it with this bass...

Mark, et al,

After replacing the truss rod in my '97 4003, I find tightening the rods is causing the fingerboard to seperate from the neck.

I've spent all the money on it I care to, and would now like to sell it to you (or anyone else) to repair and re-sell at a profit.

Make a fair offer, and I'll ship it to you with all parts and case included.

I'll be honest with you ,this is unfortunately a common occurance with Rickenbacker basses .

I have been fixing this seperation since 1973.

Anyone else have this happen to them ?

With regard to what Mark said, I believe that Mike Mills from R.E.M. also had this problem with his Ric bass, which was the catalyst for him to switch over to the Fender Precision Jazz bass that he still uses to this day.

So has Chris Squire ...I fixed his in the early 1970's ,so has McCartney .His was fixed when I worked on his bass .

The old rods really made this happen ...actually it was the fact that players with the nut wrench and repairman without knowledge of HOW the rods worked ,assumed they worked like everyone elses rod system,this then became the result .

On a new bass with the new system ,I find it interesting that this continues !!!!
In fact I am amazed!

The fix is fairly easy and if you have a SCHUBB capo ,you can fix this your self .

I have a '76 4001 with this problem, and a Schubb capo. So what is the procedure? Thanks.
