Things were getting harder for the Searchers. Their records didn't sell as much as they did before and their leader Chris Curtis left the group. Read an interview with the boys that gives you a deep inside view, see what the music press thought of the struggling Searchers and find a few snippets about Chris Curtis after he had left the group.

The Searchers Early 1966
Michael: Very nice work! I really enjoyed reading these interviews with the Searchers. It really gives us insight into the issues of the day. Many of the philosophies expressed then are still apparent in interviews with these same members today.
The comments made underscore for me the very valuable role that Chris Curtis played for the group. He was instrumental in generating the creative "spark" that kept the Searchers' material unique and fresh. His compositions were also an important contribution. I am wondering how hard the other members of the group tried to get him back. I realize that after the Australian Tour that they were totally fed up with Curtis, but still...

"What might have been"."Struggling"."Underrated".These are adjectives that I have seen in various commentaries on The Searchers' career.Unnecessary in my opinion for a group that should be given full credit for a distinguished career.I prefer the adjectives "Distinctive" and "Distinguished".To me a fair test of a band's claim to a place in rock history is their presence in the present consciousness of rock music fans.Usually the foundation of this "presence" is an excellent body of successful recorded music from a band's hit making years .Think of groups like the Beatles,Hollies,Who,Kinks,Small Faces perhaps and The Eagles to use a more up to date example.Their initial recording successes stopped a long time ago .The Searchers are no different in this respect, they are right up there as one of the bands that we love to hear on the radio and see their live performances which notably in this last respect the Searchers are actually ready, willing and able to do .
Nicely put David. They did indeed have a number of classics that I continue to sing and play forty years later. They are certainly high in my consciousness and as you say they have a most deserving place in Rock and Roll history.
