So Where Are You From?
I was born and raised in New Jersey, but for the past 14 years, I have lived in Manassas, Virginia, which is about 25 miles west of Washington DC. I have four Rick basses (a 4004 Laredo, two 4003's and a 4001v63), one F**d*r J*** Bass, and two Dean basses (a hollow-body fretless and an 8-string). My wife doesn't understand why I have so many basses, but she still loves me, and in the long run, that's what counts.

That's amazing. I live in Chelsea about 40 blocks from the WTC. I saw everything from the street and my wife witnessed it all from her office window on Union Square. A friend of ours worked at Windows on the World. She was late to work that day and survived, but lost 60 friends and co-workers. Those were surreal days and weeks that followed - the smell of the smoke, soldiers patrolling the streets, whole neighborhoods cordonned off. As much as I appreciated the huge outpouring of support from friends, family, and strangers from all over the world, if you weren't here, you just can't imagine..

I was born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1965, which is a very attractive city and full of history. I've always had a dual interest in transport and music: anyone else? Something to do with different colours making different sounds, or the idea that a piece of engineering can also be a work of art.
From 1983-1986, I attended the University of Liverpool, where I discovered The Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, Jefferson Airplane, The Grateful Dead and Liverpool humour. I lived in Greenbank Road, right at the end of Penny Lane. Despite being half an hour's walk from Mather Avenue, Menlove Avenue and Forthlin Road, I was more interested in visiting Monterey Fairgrounds, Golden Gate Park, The Fillmore, The Carousel, The Avalon, Ciro's and Sunset Strip. I now live even further away from these meccas, in Shaw, Oldham, which is 10 miles north-east of Manchester and 45 miles east of Liverpool.
My "Byrds" collection consists of a Mapleglo 370/12RM, a 1963 Gretsch Country Gent, a sunburst 50s Re-Issue Telecaster with Parsons-White B-Bender, a 1967 2x15 Dual Showman and a 1969 2x15 Dual Showman Reverb. The Gent has an authentic David Crosby-style STP sticker on it and, no, I don't care if I've devalued it (the sticker). I play bass in "Who The", a Who tribute band, using a re-issue Danelectro Longhorn through two JMI AC-50 heads and two T100 re-issue cabs. The guitarist uses my JMI AC-100 and Supreme cab, mounted on a North Coast stand with a vintage Union Flag on the front. I also have the two AC-50 Super Twin cabs, a 1964 Burns Marvin and a 1966 Gibson EB-3. I'm also restoring two old Bristol VR double-deck buses.
Favourite fantasy Ricks are a 3-pickup Mapleglo 4005/8RM, a 3-pickup f-hole Fireglo 4005OS, and a 10-string Bantar. Favourite guitarist is Paul Kantner: the missing link between Roger McGuinn and Pete Townshend.

"But the man has a 47-string guitar." (Grace Slick on Paul Kantner's attempt to tune his 366/12 during a Winterland show of October 31 1969).
Oklahoma City, thanks to Uncle Sam I've set up housekeeping in North Carolina and Washington State. I have to admit I miss the Northwest, not a whole lot of activity here in the heartland. Basses? All Rics of course, Black ones, some cream ones and a white one that hasn't decided what color it wants to be(white or yellow.)
I'm am Canadian! Unless you've seen the Molson beer commercials, you won't get it.
Anyways, I live in the city of Barrie in Ontario. Barrie is located approximately 60 miles north or Toronto and is the gateway to the Muskoka's which is cottage country. The population here is currently 110,000 We are at the end of a large bay which extends to a huge lake, it's great for water sports and fishing year round.
I've been playing a Ric 4001 for more years than I would like to admit. I have a large collection of vintage basses, but only one 4001. It's the only RIC that I need.

Hello-- My first post here, and I'm greatly excited to be a member of what I consider a very special fraternity.
I'm from North Wilkesboro, North Carolina and have lived here all my life. I seem to be the only huge Rickenbacker fan in my area, but that's okay. My enthusiasm for Rics can easily make up for the lack of connoisseurs around here. ~LOL~
I'm a bass player, but occasionally dabble in guitar. My bass collection consists of: a vintage '66 Fender P-bass in 3-tone sunburst that I bought used in February of 1972. This was the only bass I had until January of 1993 when I got my first Ric-- a brand new 4003 mapleglo. An extremely proud moment for me. I still consider this my #1 bass. I also have a 1999 Zeta Crossover that I really enjoy. And I have a Ric 4004 Cheyenne (series I) that should arrive next week. I'm really looking forward to this bass, and have plans to convert it to a fretless.
My other Ric instrument is a 1996 360/12V64 that I bought new. A very nice piece and still in mint condition. I'm also close to purchasing a 2000 1997SPC fireglo from Chris at PickoftheRicks.
There are quite a few other Ric basses and guitars that I'd love to have. "So many Rics; so little time and money." But such is life.
That's pretty much it for my current collection. Very happy to be a member here at last.

Hello gang. I was born in 1950 and raised in suburban Chicago-land, Illinois, very close to O'Hare Airport. I moved to Los Angeles, California in 1978 and still reside here in the Silverlake/Echo Park area of the city, just west of downtown. It's a long story, but finally after 35 years or so I've got two Ricks, a '99 360/6 FG and a '99 325V59 Tur. that I enjoy playing alot (through old Fender tube amps.) Through my teens and twenties I played in basement, garage and bar bands but now I haven't been in a band for many years. I still like to fool around though, playing my favorite pop/rock songs and writing one every now and then.
Lately I've been listening to alot of old recordings by Django Reinhardt, Andres Segovia, Chet Atkins and a few others who can really play the guitar. I've always enjoyed listening to and being amazed by these players. And, although I don't have the talent or gift or whatever you want to call it to be able to play like that, I'm now headed in that direction with my playing.
I like the Rickenbacker Forum and have been lurking regularly and occasionally posting here for almost a year. Thanks again Peter for providing us with this hangout. As always, best regards to all you Rickheads.

Yikes!! After registering my 4003 and 360/12V64 over at the Rickenbacker Registration Page, I find that my 12-stringer was actually produced in February, 1994! This is a bit surprising, considering that I ordered it in spring of 1996 and didn't receive it til June of that same year. The guitar was purchased through Atlanta Rhythm City (now known as Guitar Center/Atlanta) and I was led to believe that it would have to be ordered from the Ric factory. Kinda strange that a Feb. '94 instrument would require a waiting period of several months almost 2-1/2 years after being built.
I'm from Québec city originally but my line of work brought me 200Km ( 120Mi) up north in LaBaie.
10 min. drive from that little white house in Chicoutimi that the world witness standing through that huge flood of 1996!
My mother in law ( who's in Ottawa, Ontario) keeps reminding me that I live in that other country across the river!!!( Canadian readers will know what I mean! LOL!)
I'm from the 1961 cuvée and started to play the guitar when I was fourteen. I had to switch on the bass in the band since we couldn't find another bass player at the time! But after four years, I came back on my good ol' 360/6.
Today, I play gigs occasionnaly with friends in the bars around the area just to keep the music spirit goin' !
I think that Peter did a superb job with this forum and I made sure that it was my home page as soon as I was part of it!
I think it's great to share a passion with others such as you guys of the forum. I'm learning every day with fun, good humour and dedication from the pros!
Keep up the good work!

Originally from San Francisco. Right on the edge of the Haight/Ashbury. I now live in Meridian, ID. Just outside Boise. I'm a bass player. My first bass was a 1967 Hofner. The next several were Rickenbackers. Of course I still have many of them. My fav bass is my 1990 4001V63. Followed closely by my Fender Jazz.

Though I was born in Paris and lived there for many years, I now live close to Narbonne, in the South of France.
Depending on the result of our soon coming elections, I'll either stay in France or move...

Bass player for Next (FR)
I was born in Columbus, Ohio in 1956 and have lived here all my life.I was raised just a few blocks from the birthplace of Eddie Rickenbacker in an area called "driving park". It was called this because Eddie used to drive his race cars around a dirt track that he made in a field. Legend has it that the little old ladies who lived nearby would call the police on him for the noise his cars made but, being who he was, the cops never did much about it. When I was a teenager I used to deliver the "Columbus Citizen Journal" to his old house. This is the house that Adolph lived in when he moved here as mentioned in Richard Smith's book. If you'd like, I'll go by there and see about taking some photos of the place and posting them on this site.
I really do love this site. I've become addicted to it.
Sonance, Randy.

Is everybody ready?
Randy: Welcome. By all means, please stop by the homestead and take some photos. It would also be nice to post some on the Rickenbacker Registration Page.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm
