What are your favorite songs? Here are mine:

Rush - Prime Mover*. (I have it on now.) I love the sound of that Wal. Beautiful lyrics too. Really makes you think. The live one** on the "A Show Of Hands" video is good.

Rush - La Villa Strangiato*. One word: sick. Ok more than one word needed. Great guitar, amazing drums, and talk about a fast, and short, bass solo! Gotta love that Rick. And the fact it was recorded in one take? Wow. I like the ESL version the most**.

Rush - The Pass*. Great song. And a Rush song I can sing in my normal (not falsetto) range to boot! Well... just about anything '82+ I can sing in my normal range.

Pink Floyd - Time. Good song. I like it post Waters with Guy Pratt's overplaying, although with Waters it is just as good. Now, Roger playing it solo... lets just say that's why he didn't sing lead on it in the first place. Great guitar solo too.

Paul McCartney - Figure of Eight. First time I heard it I loved it. Best version** on "Tripping The Live Fantastic".

Kiss - I Still Love You. Best when heard live. Unplugged version is awesome**!

*I know, I know, "I guess he likes Rush."
** IMHO some songs are better live. Late '70s 2112 comes to mind. Geddy plays the hell out of that song.

Nate, The Pass is a very under-appreciated Rush song. GREAT song. La Villa, well, yes, that is SICK, and we get napkins handed to the stage when my band plays, and they say La Villa on them and I just laugh.
Time, great one. I like the Dark Side version best.
Kiss - well, now, I am a big Kiss fan, but when I saw them do this song live back in the day, Paul would oversing it and it could go 8 minutes. But now I like it better.

Why? Too hard? I can play it. The problem is I don't know anybody else who can.

Oh, I forgot one.(Prepares to be flamed.)
Ashlee Simpson (ducks)- Endless Summer. I love that song. (Grabs a garbage can lid to use as a shield.)

Nate, that's the problem, the rest of my band doesn't know it. Image I'd LOVE to play it.

Actually I do know people that know it. My uncle and his bands drummer could do it, but my uncle is too stubborn to learn anything. For my first gig he let me guest on bass and I told him and his band to learn 3 songs for me: The Big Money, New World Man (with longer bass solo ending), and YYZ. All with great bass so I could show off. Well he dropped the first two and told me to learn a couple other songs: Sweet Child 'O Mine and Run To The Hills. I told him to tack on the Trooper to. Well in the end the other guitar player was too drunk to play the trooper (it was his birthday too) and they played the GnR tune while I was watching. When we played YYZ he messed up and messed me up. Well after that I would even dare ask him to do La Villa, a more complex song than YYZ.

They also recorded YYZ and I'm still waiting for him to E-mail me the vid.

Make your band learn it, Steve. When I finally get a band I'm going to make sure they learn that song and the other two Rush songs on my favorites list.

I forgot another one (yes it's a Rush song).

Rush - Between The Wheels. Great song. Geddy's singing gives me goosbumps, hehe. The last verse: "We can go from boom to bust....", when he goes up higher (not as high as usual, but that was the album when he started singing lower) just gets to me. But there's not very much bass to it. I need a keyboard!

No, The Guess Who Jeff, was their first hit in 1965. Come on now you're old enough to remember that they had a different lead singer named Chad allen, was actually an early 60's British tune by Johnnie Kidd and The Pirates. The Guess Who's version is the best one IMHO though, really rocked.

Incidently Louis Louis is still getting banned for having obscene lyrics, haha! After posting this the other day I heard that a band was banned from playing it at a high school graduation somewhere in the midwest but the kids parents made him reconsider, heard it on Airamerica.
