HELP NEEDED!!!

Post by frankie »

I have a '73 4001 and I need help with the wiring. I took out a small mod that the previous owner did and I can't get the front pickup to work at all. I think I have at least one wire crossed, etc.. Does anyone have a drawing of how the wiring should be, or can anyone lead me to a diagram on the web? I'm aware of the schematic on Rickenbacker's web site, bit I don't know how to read schematics. There's several hand drawn wiring diagrams of Strats, Teles and Les Pauls on the web, but I couldn't find one for a 4001. I need to gig with this bass tomorrow night, so I'm in dire need. A few pics at different angles of the electronics of an actual 4001 would also work if anyone is willing to remove their pickguard and take a few pics and email to me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. My fax # is
714-854-0483 and my email is [email protected]

Thanks in advance,
Frank

Frank,

If you go to http://www.rickenbacker.com and look under the schematics section, you should find a wiring schematic for the 4001 there.

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for the reply, but as I mentioned in my post above, I'm not able to understand the schematic. I'm looking for a handwritten diagram, etc..

Thanks,
Frank

Frank,

Sorry, that'll teach me to reply when I'm not awake, lol.

If you email me, I'll try to talk you through it if you need.

I remember that bass PUs have 2 wires. In your 4001 one wire should be soldered to the switch, the other should be grounded to the bottom of the "neck volume" pot... Look at the bridge pickup wires, it should help you to figure the work...
