Thanks John. This photo cuts right to it.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

One of the stupidest stories I've ever heard. He must have been tanked up on ale when he did it.

I've talked with Gerry about this a couple times over the last few years and he always used the word "disgusted" when he was talking about how he felt about doing it. I told him it was likely the third one they made and that it was shipped over with Lennon's 325/12 and he just said, ".....stupid, stupid, stupid". Poor guy, lol.

John Hall has some unseen pictures of this guitar that his father took back in the day. It's shown on the back of the Smith RIC book if anyone is interested in taking a closer look.

The picture with Gerry at the microphone looks totally normal to me. What is wrong with the headstock shape there? You can clearly see the problem in that video picture.

Speaking of Gerry and New Zealand.....

My parents rented a house up in the Bay of Islands in 1984 for a week stay. While there we met a couple who were vacationing from Liverpool. My parents invited the couple back to our place for drinks. During the visit, the woman told me that her niece dated Gerry Marsden back when the Pacemakers were just taking off.

In a very stupid move, he sawed an inch or two off of the end of one guitar. Townshend smashed several of them to bits. Pete was in a great band and the smashing did wonders for his career so in retrospect it was brilliant. But....
This is off the record

Oh.....and the woman said Gerry was a gentleman but soon dumped her niece for another girl.

We both agreed the pickin's were plenty around that time for Gerry.

I wonder what the little piece of sawed off headstock is worth today? LOL
