Ric 4004 IIC-how is the body constructed?

Post by humbucker75 »

Hi,
I would like to know what is the order of woods that make up the body?

for example-is there a top and back cap of figured maple with a walnut core-or does it have solid wings of maple with walnut only on the headstock wings.

I have call Ric about this and could not get a decent answer-????

Dealers don't know either.

thanks

I can give you the answer ( I bet you weren't ready for that?)

The neck runs the entire length of the instrument .Just like a 4001V63 .Just like a 4003.

The body is made up of figured halves of maple .These solid pieces are glued to the neck and then shaped into the body pattern ,and not in that order necessarily .

The control cavity is routed from the rear and the pickup lead wires receive long holes drilled from the face into the control cavity .

The bridge ground/earth gets a similar feed hole for the grounding wire .

"Some assembly is required" .
So you too want yours "ALAPWOB"?!?!

Hi.
I also have the same question with Jeff. Because I have seen some types of 4004CII's construction.

**** Type1 : body 3ply ****
body top : figured maple
body center : walnut
body back : figured maple
headstock wing : figured maple
color : natural(it is lusterless)
year of production : 1998

**** Type2 : body 2ply ****
body top : figured maple
body center : It does not exist.
body back : walnut
headstock wing : walnut
color : MG
year of production : 1999, 2000, 2001

**** Type3 : body 1ply or 2ply or 3ply ??? ****
body top : figured maple
body center : It may not exist, or walnut ???
body back : It may not exist, or figured maple ???
headstock wing : figured maple
color : TB, TR
year of production : 2000, 2001

I suppose, some variations of construction are exists by difference of color or difference of year of production. Probably, it is the type3 that Mark wrote. Is the structure of the body really 1ply?

Mark. Can I learn about your wonderful 4004CII more? I want to learn serial-number and color-finish about yours. I want to learn correct informations about the series of 4004 that is the attractive RIC.

I do not know how many variations they are making ....remember I do NOT work there , I did once .
I do see lots of Ricks on my bench however .

There is not a big Rick selection in any music store in the State of Washington to my knowledge .

Cuitar Center Lynwwood has one 4003 and a Desert Gold 330
Band Aid music has two 12 strings ...they play aweful .

No 4004 basses to be seen .

So , how would they do this ? I'll give you my best guess.

1-Neck through body with 'wings' of matching maple ,
2-Neck through body with figured maple wings
3-Neck set using a rear mounted neck , routed into a tapered pocket running the length .I have not seen this , but it could be done .
4-figured wood applied to standard grade wood and then made into wings ...again , I have NOT seen this ,but it may be done this way .

If you want this answer , and want to get specs on it ....try emailing the company .
So you too want yours "ALAPWOB"?!?!
