The new 330 FG!
My new Ric came today! After not quite 4 months. In perfect working order, but without all the stuff I had the dealer 'throw in'. I assume that's been sent separately - give it a few days.
This was bought from Ed Roman guitars out of Connecticut / Las Vegas; he lived up to his part of the bargain, so he must be an OK guy.
I upgraded to the nice crushed velvet lined case and am glad I did (It was only $50 more).
It's gonna take just a little getting used to after all these years with a Strat, but I think I can come to like this Ric!

I recently bought this very combination of guitars- a Mexican Fender Strat and a Ric 330/6. Both guitars are wonderful, and both make distinct sounds. I make it a point to play both every day. Since a somewhat different touch is required for each, it is worth it to me to remain adept with each instrument. If your experience is like mine, you will be most happy with the truly broad musical pallette that is now available to you. Big Congrats!
Both Fender Strats and Rick Hollow bodies "cut" EXTREMELY well. If you play R&R a Ric would be my personal choice, hands down!!! However...it's been my personal experience(the past 35 yrs of playing, 30 yrs with a Ric)that Blues is difficult at best, due to the narrow neck. I was thinking of asking RIC to add the Tom Petty neck to a 340 for me...that shouldn't be too difficult! Then, I hope, to play R&B, R&R, Gospel, Jazz, you name it!!! Wish me luck! AL A.
I agree Al. It is more difficult to bend strings on the Rickenbacker neck. Not that it can't be done, it is just more difficult for me compared to other necks such as the Stratocaster. Your comment about a larger neck on the 300 series is also well taken, not only from a Blues perspective but just adding a tad more room in general.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

I just refretted Rich Snyders 360 with taller wider frets , and then resprayed the fretboard with only a minimum of clear to give the maximum fretheight without finger drag on the fretboard.
When he returns from his road trip , perhaps he will comment on the difference of before and after and then compare to his Strat!

So you too want yours "ALAPWOB"?!?!
Does anyone else play slide on their Rics? I find the slimmer 300 series neck just favulous to glide on using a slide, ebow or just soundscapes using fx like delay, chorus and phaser.
On an unrelated note, I had to inform my guitar tech that Ric 12's are strung differently than any other 12 string. Good thing he called me to ask, otherwise I would have gotten back my 360/12 with standard 12 stringing - ACK!

I've played slide on my Ric 330/12, and it was AWESOME!!! The harmonics and tone were WONDERFUL. Try it, you 12-stringers out there!!! It's even EASIER than playing slide on a 6 string! You've got more tension and you can control the slide easier. Plus...with a bit of overdriven tube sound, it really SINGS!!! Have fun...AL A.
