The 4000 Series String Mute Pad

Post by rob »

Does the string mute pad supposed to touch the strings? The one on my 4003 doesn't, and the one on my 4001 is not there. How does this work? Is it just there for show?

THis is a 1950's concept .Fender basses UNDER the chrome bridge cover had a strip of foam window insulation/weatherstripping , it was also under there pickups as a 'spring' to hold the coil in the cover.

Rickenbacker is sort of the cousin of Fender ....so with that in mind , there were things done to guitars and basses that were similar.

The foam was/is there to give the effect of an upright bass.

My take on it is this .......don't use it , use your hand to mute strings , that way you have options!!!
So you too want yours "ALAPWOB"?!?!
