Roger Deacon's Ric

Post by marty »

I knew Roger Deacon once played a 4001, but hadn't seen it until I saw this:

Very underrated as a bassist, especially the mid 70's stuff, where musically it is as good as it gets as far as the rock/pop genre is concerned imo.

As good a live band you would ever have seen....

Why, oh why, is there no one today even remotely in the same class...

Andrew,

No one is in the same class because no one before or since has been able to command an audience the way Freddie did. Way before the advent of video screens at the sides of the stage, Freddie was already larger than life and knew exactly how to work the stage.

Too true Kevin. He was also a wonderful composer, with one of the best voices of the period. Complimented by 3 guys who could really play and create those arrangements and harmonies.
That's what makes them one of the all time best imo...

Check out "Queen on Fire" and "Live at Wembley" DVD's for proof of their power. What an incredible band! No Rickenbackers present in either DVD, however, it's all P-bass.

IMHO, Queen is incredibly incredibly underappreciated. Especially here in the States.

You had to see them live to really appreciate how brilliant they and especially Freddie were.
I caught them on the Crazy Tour of London in 79 when they played the smaller venues of around 2-3000 people. The gig I saw at the Lyceum is still the best I have ever attended.

I saw them the first time in '77 on the Queen Lizzy tour (Thin Lizzy opened) and again on the Live Killers, The Game, and Hot Space tours. Simply incredible each time.
