5 string basses are back, 8 string comming soon!

Just looked at the Rickenbacker site and saw a beautifull Cheyenne II 4004/5. We now have a Ricky 5 with a wider neck and string spacing. There is also a new 8 string comming soon in the Cheyenne II body!!

I saw that very bass that is on the website at the NAMM show. It was nice, I'm looking forward to when they become available. Finally a fingerstyle friendly RIC 5 string. I think they are still working out the exact size of the headstock. The prototype seen on the websute seemed a bit neck heavy.

The neck on the 4003S/8 was heavy before with the huge headstock. I don't know how they could keep that from being a problem with the new 4004Cii8. I am very interested in seeing the final design for the 4004Cii5 as I have a 4003S/5 which is my primary instrument.

Hey Joey! ;)

Thanks, Joey. Any news on the new 5 string yet? I still want a translucent black finish and black hardware. And while I'm dreaming.... an ebony board with no markers also.

Hey Brad, you think they will do a translucent black? Mr. Hall told me they might consider a solid black, but translucent sounds better. I'll take mine with chrome hardware. Ebony board.....you think they'll do that? they are so rigid at RIC. I'll take the ebony board with the old version crushed mother of pearl triangle fretboard markers........I'm really dreaming....LOL

No, I don't think they'll do anything too cool. Image

I am holding out hope though. *sigh*

Hey Brad, maybe we can order our 4004/5 Cii basses without hardware, and install our own on them.

I stopped and thought for a bit at that suggestion. Only problem is that the more I think about it, the more I really want a translucent black finish. So.... maybe unfinished as well? Do you think they'd sell it that way, with just the electronics installed but no hardware? Wonder if I could get the board with no inlays also?

Brad, let's get two unfinished ones with no hardware, just the electronics. Then we can get someone to finish them for us.........maybe Mark Arnquist can do it? Maybe we can do it ourselves? I think I'd like mine as a translucent black satin finish, with chrome hardware, or maybe that hardware that kind of looks similar to a pewter finish. Is it possible to get them less expensive and quicker that way?........but I doubt RIC would go for it.

Haha... we think alike! Image I've already asked Mark about it and he's willing to do the deal. (Check the thread on the "ask a Ric luthier" forum.) If we could do it together, it may be better for all of us (Mark included) and talk about schweet! I'm even interested in the possibility of an ebony board & custom inlays.
