Squiers vary so much in build quality that you have to really check them out thoroughly before you buy. Things like uneven frets, ****** pots, poor joins in the body and cheap tuners can make them real duds.

Mine's not bad, though........

Oh there's a story behind all the mods on my Union Jack Squire. But I'll save that for another day.

Bottom line is you make sure it has a good neck good pickups good tuners and measure from the nut to the centre of the bridge so you know you can intonate the beast. Anyway with some care and attention you can select a good one. As I've said on other posts I like this one "Union Jack" and my "Old Faithful" because they are light and responsive. Great for blues.

And yes, I name my guitars in case you ask. Weird eh?

Howard, I have a low end PRS, a CE22 bolt on, but it's a REALLY nice guitar.

However, I suggest that you try any PRS before you buy; mine has the "wide/fat" neck and it's pretty damn wide, quite different from a Gibson neck, not to mention a Rickenbacker neck. It's comfortable once you get used to it, and the guitar sounds great, but it is different.

Nice colour, Lindsay. I'm not going to have to worry about the neck, though - I'm not going to buy a PRS. The Gretsch will finish off the collection just nicely for the moment.

I've got a 360/6 FG on order and I'm always looking for Ricks on eBay, so that will be my main focus for quite a while, I think.

Maybe some time in the future, Rob. I played a fellow forumite's Gretsch Chet Atkins a couple of months back and it was really very nice to play (seated).

I have an aversion to wedding cake, Rob. I ate some 31 years ago and it left a bad taste in my mouth!!
