New 360/6 Jetglo

Post by rkbsound »

I just ordered a 360/6 in Jetglo and I am totally excited. Hopefully I will have it within 1-3 months, according to Jim Rhoads. This is my "dream" guitar, as I am a huge fan of Peter Buck. I know it's nothing fancy, but I can't wait to get it. Next on the "list" will be either an upgraded Vox amp or a Rick 12 (360 Mapleglo). And my wife thinks that the 360 was the only thing on my "list"!

RKbsound - as a fellow fan of Mr. Buck, I applaud your Rickenbacker choice wholeheartedly. My 360/6MG that I got last year was originally going to be a JG as well, but I snapped up the MG instead since it was already at the store. I could barely wait 2 days for UPS to deliver it, let alone 1-3 months.

Congratulations.

Mr. Phelps: Congratulations. I must say, however, that your choice of a Jetglo Rickenbacker 360/12 IS something fancy.

I think Mr Phelps said his 360/6 was Jetglo, and he was planning on a Mapleglo 360/12.

My recently Arnquistized 360/12 is Jetglo. I was going for a cross between Harrison's 360 sound, and the look of Lennon's refinished guitar, and Georges Gretsch. And I personally don't think much of the Mapleglo. I know I'm in the minority there.

Thanks David. I meant to say that Mr. Phelps' 360 Jetglo is indeed something special.

Aside from the fact that I think MG is a fine color, I also would like to round out my Ricks with what I believe to be the 3 basic Rickenbacker colors. I actually would prefer a 360/12 in Jetglo, but since I will have the 6 string in JG, and have a 335 in FG, I may try something different (5 years down the road?).

David, can you post a photo of your "Arnquistized" guitar?

David: Overall, I really don't think that you are in the minority here when you indicate that Mapleglo is not at the top of your list. The data from registrations thus far would indicate that Fireglo instruments are at 34% followed by Jetglo at 26% and then Mapleglo at 19%. These statistics may change when the upate appears later this summer. It suppose it may be argued that the finish of the instrument owned by registrants is not the one they prefer. Nonetheless, that Fireglo is first on the list in populatity is not surprising to me.

So why do these preferences exist? The Rose Morris exports, Lennon and McGuinn? I would be interested in your thoughts.

I'm also another one here who wants to round out my Rics (360/6 MG and 360/12 FG so far) with the third "basic" Rickenbacker colour. I'd probably do this by placing an order for a 381v69/6 JG someday.

Peter, in regards to your question about colour preference... I'd say that it works on a generational level. For example, a lot of folks on this board who grew up with the Beatles and Byrds get their prefereences from those artists, while someone like myself will be looking at the Peter Buck's. So, I'm kinda influenced by George Harrison and Roger McGuinn, once removed.

Peter, you are right about color not necessarily reflecting the true desire of a Rick owner. My current and so far only Rick was chosen because it was the only one I could find and afford, and the color happened to be Fireglo. I would have preferred Jetglo first, but price/availability prevailed. Fortunately, color has nothing to do with sound (at least I presume that!), so my experience with a Fireglo has been a great one!

I will admit that my recent desperation to find a 360/6 almost brought me to purchasing a used one in a color I really didn't want. Patience prevailed, and now I am fortunate to be in a position to be able to get exactly what I want.

I ordered my first RIC sight unseen from the factory. I ended up with a god awful red. No wonder they had it in stock. I hated selling that guitar as it sounded/played awesome. I just couldn't stand to play that REDENBACKER any more!
