I remember seeing Tony and the Vibrations on Norwegian television, probably in 1965. They performed two songs. One of them (not Tony himself, as I remember it) performed a "stiff stare gimmic"; looking into the camera with a glass eye look. He did this more than once. Does anybody remember this as a regular part of the Vibrations' image and performance?
One more Vibrations question: Did Tony constantly play the bass with them, or did he develope a pure lead singer role?

Searchers amongst my teenage favourite music. Still fond of them, but earnestly a little puzzled they are considered THIS big! But I'm very excited about this forum, and will love to read it regularly, and also contribute!

Einar: Great question. The following is a quote from On The Road With Black Jake. Quote:After Tony Jackson's third single fizzled, he decided to front the band and hence was looking for a bass player. Paul Francis recommended Denis Thompson, perfoming with Bobby Rio, and after the audition Denis became the fifth member of The Vibrations. The group was then comprised of Tony Jackson (frontman and vocals), Paul Francis (Twizzle) on drums, Ian Leighton (formerly Ian Buisel) on guitar, Martin Raymond (formerly Paul Raymond and known as "Hands") on keyboards and Denis Thompson on bass. Denis was present for the recording of the fourth single.

Interested Peter in the photo of the sleeve, I bought this single on day of release back in 64 and certainly do not recall it being in a picture sleeve, in fact they were rare at the time, picture sleeves did not realyy come about until Strawberry Fileds by The Beatles, is this a canadian or US release. (knew my wife and daughters were wrong,in telling me all my stuff was a pile of .... and worth nothing, must dig my copy out)

Roy, it could well be a Danish or Swedish release as The Searchers' singles of the same era had a similar style of picture sleeve in these countries

While we are on the subject. Why did neither of these songs result in the chart success that they deserved? They were fresh material, tight performances and the production of the recordings was as good as any in those days. Perhaps Tony's style departed too sharply from his previous material with the Searchers.

Bye Bye Baby is now up to $152.50 US. Roy, perhaps you should look around for that picture sleeve!
