R.I.P. - Piggy from VoiVod

Piggy, the brains behind VoiVod's guitar riffs died the other day from advanced colon cancer. I figure most folks here are unaware of them as there aren't many metalheads here, but they were a great band.

I really never got into Voivod's music, even though I'm a long time Metallica fan, and never yet heard how Jason Newsted (former bass player from Metallica) sounds with them. I sincerely hope that Denis D'Amour passed quietly in peace.

That's always a sad thing to hear.

In the mid '80's I was a roadie for a Cleveland metal band (Destructor) and they opened for Voivod with Anthrax headlining (IIRC) at a local club......those guys were wacky. Very friendly and outgoing but were throwing each other down the stairs and ramming each other with furniture. I can remember chatting with a few of the guys from the band and just thought they were some genuinely nice people.

I'm not sure if Piggy was a member then and what happened to him is sad regardless (obviously) but that night is one of my fonder memories from 20 years ago and this thread just made me think of it again......

Piggy was a co-founder.

Wow,that is really sad.I met him in 1987 when Voivoid did an "in store" appearance at a record shop I worked at.Piggy was a really nice guy and very considerate to his fans.
