Squire Trivia

Post by levykev »

Did Chris Squire run his trusty Rickenbacker in stereo, using a bass amp and guitar amp, early on? Did he employ that system for the first three YES albums? (Yes, Time and a Word, The Yes Album) Or, was that something that evolved around the time of 'Fragile'/'Close to the Edge'?

I see older footage that shows just Fender amps and not much else. Thanks-

I have an old copy of circus magazine from 1976 that has an interview with him, and he tell the readers that his bass is run in stereo using Fender amps for the treble side, and Sunn amps for the bass side. When I saw him in 1977, he had a Y configuration with two coiled cables coming from the bass and going to a box of some sort that was near the amps, that's why when Rickenbacker stated that the 4001 CS was going to be in mono, I just could not understand why they were doing that.

His left the factory that way. It was built a Rose-Morris 1999, to 4001S specs, which were mono.

The ideal mix leaves the bass player louder than the rest of the band put together!
