Anatomy of a toaster

Post by fireglo »

I was looking at the diagrams on Rickenbacker's site, and I couldn't see where the polepieces come up through the pickup. Are they in the black ridges that stick up through the chrome?

Also, are there separate toasters for guitar and bass, or is the same pickup used in both?

No, the 6 cylindrical magnet/polepieces are located directly underneath the chrome strip that runs the length of the top of the PU cover. The same toaster w/ 6 poles is used for guitar and bass.30 some years ago, when I bought my first Rick 12,and before I ever took a PU off the guitar to see what it looked like from the backside, I, too, presumed that the black lines on the PU top were the magnets.

Thanks Don! You would think that they would make a 4 pole version for the bass, but if it works why change it. Or, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
