King Crimson

Post by jwr2 »

Greg Lake and John Wetton and Tony Levin all played bass for this group ... I love the first album ... and the song 21st century Schitzoid man ... great musicianship and song writing ... I saw them about 1973-75 range with Bill Bruford, and John Wetton ...

I saw them, early '70's, too, Long Beach. Can't remember who they played with, either ELP or Mahavishnu.

I saw Crimson with Wetton & Bruford in the tiny Hollywood Palladium in the early 70s. They were magnificent! Also saw a different lineup in Phoenix about four years ago. John Paul Jones and friends were the backup band. There must have been about less than 300 people. I was right up front and in heaven!

I saw the twin-3-piece Crimson lineup on the Horde tour in 1998... outrageous, Tony Levin is insane!

Out of that entire 9-hour festival, the ONLY acts I liked were KC (saw them first, about 1:00) and Me'Shell N'dgeo'cello (excuse me if I butchered that!) Me'Shell is an INCREDIBLE bassist and amazing to see on stage.
What do you mean the Bass is too loud???

Saw them about 20 years ago with Adrian Belew and Tony Levin at what was then Irvine Meadows in Orange County, CA. Adrian tossed me one of those glow stick things that someone else in the audience tossed to him.

Took them a long time to start because Fripp's gear was being obstinate that night.
Listen to that sustain!

I think my favourite Crimson lineup was the early 80's version with Fripp, Belew, Levin and Bruford. Those albums got me interested in Adrian Belew's solo work and his subsequent work with The Bears. Check out the cover of "Car Caught Fire" for some good Rickenbacker content!
Early 90's Crimson sextet in Vancouver - LOUDEST concert I have ever attended!

Didn't Peter Giles play a 4001 when he was in the band?

Pete played his 4001 with Giles, Giles & Fripp and on McDonald & Giles album. On "In The Wake Of Poseidon" he played Fender Jazz and of course he never played live with King Crimson.

I saw them with Wetton & Bruford back in 73? Jamie Muir was also with them playing percussion in a gorilla costume....

Ohmigod, Bob...Muir is a huge influence for me. I'm quite envious...I saw them in '74, and he was long gone to the monastery by then.
