These were tradeshow swag, from one of the American shows and several British ones. He sat in the booth and signed them between swigs of Jack Daniels and Coke.
The bass on the left is a Frankenstein one he put together (or had put together) some time back. Little carvings on the top, nowhere near as fancy as the actual 4004LK. The face of the guitar is a cap.
Kenny, the bass in the picture is the maple necked 4001 he got in the '70s, which he got for (I seem to remember) £80. If you look closely you'll see the skunk stripe. He said it was the only maple necked Rick he's ever seen; when he got it someone had ripped the frets out. Whether or not the fingerboard was original I don't know; possibly not. The pickup it's wearing in the picture is a copy of a T/Bird pickup (possibly made by Peter Cook), and the scratchplate (pickguard) was brass. It's been seen in many photos from the late 70s onwards, and also on a few videos (incl "I Got Mine" if I remember correctly); for a long time it was his number 2 bass; I think it became his number 1 when his original T/Bird equipped 4000 bit the dust, although it was later replaced by his 4004LK.
