Questions For Searchers' Convention October 2002

Post by admin »

Perhaps Roy Clough will give remind us of the date of the upcoming Searchers' Convention in October 2002. In the meantime, I propose that we add some more questions for Roy and other panel members to ask the Searchers. While I have proposed a couple already, I hope that you will consider thes as well Roy.

Brian Epstein is said to have wanted to include "The Searchers in his stable." This was according to Mike Pender in his Owen Money interview in March 2002 during the Reelin' and a Rockin' 2002 Tour as it made its way through Wales. My question for the Searchers was did you consider approaching Epstein and if not, why not? Also, as a follow-up, The Searchers were apparently offered "Things We Said Today" a Lennon-McCartney composition for the purpose of recording a single. Assuming that this was the case, why didn't The Searchers take Epstein up on his offer?

Another Question for the Convention Roy.

There are a number of versions as to how The Searchers came to get their name. All versions of which I am aware agree that it is based on the John Wayne movie "The Searchers." The sticky point seems to be who thought of adopting the name from the movie. Was is Pender, McNally, Big Ron, or perhaps someone else?

Peter

All duly noted and it may have to be a case of prioritsing if there are a lot of questions from those present. If I can only get one of the official ones in, I will try and get others answered if possible after the spot.

Roy: Will you be able to keep track of the questions asked from the floor and the responses by The Searchers? It would be nice to post them here for all fans to see, unless of course it is planned to post this information on the Searchers' Official Site.

Roy: It would seem to me that you have had ample time to recover from your extended celebrations at the Searchers' Convention. Notwithstanding comments to be made officially, how about a brief description of the events for those of us who were unable to attend. To borrow from the "Goonies" surely we don't have to take out the blender, do we?

Peter

Hope to get some thing together this weekend. Two reasons mainly why nothing on yet
1. Do not wish to appear as if I am trying to undermine the Official version which is due to be posted on the official site this week.
2 Somebody called the "Boss"(not the wife) who seems to think I get paid for doing other things.

My report will be lacking photos until I can get round to getting them developed.

There was a technical "blip" regretfully in so far as my wife steadfastly refused to stand at front of stage to video the Q & A session, so an aquatintance kindly offered so that I could then have a video transcript so to speak, but either through misunderstanding or my failure to fully explain the working of the camera, only a small part was recorded.
So my memory cells will have to be relied upon.

Thanks Roy. I agree, the official site goes to the head of the list. BTW, your memory may not be digital but, in my opinion, as good as any recorder out there! Glad to see the event was a family affair.
