Question for hipshot bridge owners

I just installed the hipshot replacement bridge on my 4001...it appears the back end of the bridge rises off the body by about 1mm... is this part of the design, or is it supposed to fully contact the body? Does anyone elses hipshot bridge do this as well?

Hi Jo,

Mine sits flush with the body. Perhaps your body is not quite flat in that area. Check with a good steel straight edge.

Wasn't it designed to prevent that? Also, does anyone know if Hipshot fixed the problem where the saddles don't lower enough? I'm waiting for them to do that before I buy one.

Man call me kooky but ..... I really love stock ricky bridges . They are just part of the overall look and feel of the bass . Sure there a pain in the arse sometimes to deal with . I found that for the most part i have been able to correct any problems ive had with them so far . There are a few guys here on the forum that have replaced theirs with the hipshot and had their share of interesting problems with them as well .So far there is no fool proof option that i can see.

There is no way the Hipshot bridge can lift, it is way too strong to do that. I think that Jo's top is not totally flat.

I have plenty of adjustment range on mine, I can go a lot lower than it is and the action is pretty low already, some of the guys that played it at the MARF can attest to that.

Next year...Does this mean the new bridge less than two months away!?

Is it going to be a drop-in bridge or a whole tailpiece replacement?

Also will it be available as a replacement part,as in the parts that are now present thro authorized dealers ?If its gonna be a added new inproved item for 2006 models ONLY it wont do any greatness for us older,past models.

The part retrofits any 4 or 5 stringer without modification, provides much more adjustability than either the RIC or Hipshot units, and will be available as a part sometime next year. Beyond that I'm not going to comment further.

Will it be a little wider? I'm asking because my tailpiece is lifting and chipping the finish on the front of my 4001. I'm wondering if the new bridge/tailpiece would cover the holes.

Excellent! I assume it will look pretty much stock. I've always liked the look of the original. It's part of what makes a Rick a Rick.
