"Oh, and they'll never paint anything white ever again."

When did they say that?

Steve, I haven't read all of the Halls' comments, but my 2004 Laredo has walnut headstock wings. So I don't think that's be a "new" feature. Image

I remember last year about this time, on the RIC website, they had a chip on their "available finishes" page, that said "2005 color of the year".

Then about every other day they kept changing the color on us.

Here is JH's comment on the bridge re-design:
"The part retrofits any 4 or 5 stringer without modification, provides much more adjustability than either the RIC or Hipshot units, and will be available as a part sometime next year. Beyond that I'm not going to comment further."

Re: walnut wings...JH posted, 10/24/05
"Current production has the 4004 bass position pickup back against the neck and it will be staying there. Walnut wings on the headstock too, while we're talking about this model."
and Ben posted:
"Yes yes! Laredos and Cheyennes have walnut ears again as God intended. The pickup slots were moved to make neck repairs easier. Truss rod access you see."

Please note that I am re-posting these quotes out of context, but in the hopes of remaining accurate to what was actually said on these issues. Thanks to John and Ben for their continued participation here and their sharing of information!! Image

Sorry - I meant to say that Ben had said there would be NO new basses for 2006.

Ben's comment about walnut wings on the 4003 series was actually posted in the guitar section of the forum. I can't remember which thread. I think it's under "New 12 String Headstock" or something. Look for my name. I was the last person to post under the thread.

John Fay said:

"BTW-
Hey Ben-
Walnut ears on a 4003?
Your sarcasm isn't lost on me, but THAT would be cool.
I was thinking of doing that to one.....

Silly ain't it?"

Then Ben said:

"If you ordered a 381, don't worry. The new headstock does not apply to the V Series or the 660's.

By the way, the walnut ears, not just sarcasm... reality!"

You bass guys really should get over to the guitar forum more often.

Ben made the comment about white in the COY thread. *paraphrasing* he said that imperfections in the finish are way too noticeable and the workers at Ric, being perfectionists that they are, spent way too much time on white finish guitars. It caused production headaches.

Problem, Jared?

Jeff, it's something original, very playable and (in my eyes), damned sexy.

Just got the slab of hard rock maple in, I'm building it between forum posts.

It's a shame people don't have the balls to build their own instruments anymore. I need to do it, anyway.

Is Auerswald building that for you? I know he does a lot of similar work for Prince.
