Heat Pump Problems

Post by jaybic »

Anyone here have any experience with Heat Pumps? The unit in my house is icing up the line between the outside compressor and the actual unit itself. It also seems to only send out warm air through the registers when "Em Heat" is selected on the thermostat as opposed to "Heat". Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.

Jason, is this only for a short period of time? It could be only happening during a defrost cycle?

If it is happening and staying frozen, call a tech, it is likely a blocked line, filter/drier, stuck or plugged TXV/cap tube or plugged/blocked airflow. If it happens only briefly, then the defrost cycle and components should be checked.

These are but a few possibilities, (kind of like telling your mechanic the car won't start, whats the problem) and should be checked by a refrigeration mechanic.

My day job these days is for a German refrigeration and A/C compressor manufacturer. Mostly commercial now, but I spent 20 years in residential and comercial heat pumps, GSHPs and dehumidifiers.
