Forum Branch Page Display Question
Forum Branch Page Display Question
Regarding the display of topics in a particular branch, would it be possible to configure the board software to display not only the name of the last poster in a thread but the originator of the thread, too?

I don't have an answer, but I've got a related Forum question.... How come the "new" banners aren't coming up when I access the Forum? I'ts been about a week now, and it takes me a little more time to peruse when I don't remember the last poster on each thread, LOL!

Melissa: I would make sure that my browser had cookies enabled. These "new" arrows still work from my computers. Anyone else?

I am sure you probably didn't Melissa. Do me a favour and click on the log out link at the top of this page, then click the forum link on the next page that appears and see if the cookies return.

Alan and Patrick: I suppose this is a feature that is workable, however, I am not convinced that it is necessary as one click will tell you who the originator is as you move to the subtopic page.
For example, as I look at the subtopic page for this thread, I see my name as the last poster. As I click on the subtopic to read messages posted, Alan's name appears at the top of the posts as the original poster.
Perhaps I am missing your point or the importance of this feature.

Peter,
How long are the new banners supposed to stay in place. I notice that they drop off much faster than they used to. I posted in Charlies forum at 9:27 and the new banner is gone already

They drop off when you return to the same area of the Forum. In some cases almost immediately, others after a return visit and, in my experience, sometimes two.The NEW icons are tied to the time of your last visit, and not to actual discussions you may or may not have read or posted to. Your very first time to the board, nothing will be marked as new. On subsequent visits, those areas with activity since your last visit should be marked as new.

You know what that means Peter? I am probably spending far too much time cruising the forum. LOL

Well, most of the boards I visit have the originator and the last poster displayed in the branch page view; I don't need to open the thread to see who started it like I have to here, that's all. It's a standard feature in phpbb-based boards.
Is it "important?" No, not compared to almost everything. Would it make my use of the board a little more enjoyable? Yes, but it's not a big deal.

Melissa: if you've cleared out your cache or reset your browser, the banners will disappear the next time you revisit the Forum. After one "cycle" (a revisit where you click through some of the topics), the "new" banners should return.I've got a related Forum question.... How come the "new" banners aren't coming up when I access the Forum?
I tend to use the 'Last Day' option rather than rely on the 'New' banners. I can easily see any new entries to threads that I have an interest in (mainly because I'm here almost 24/7/365!).
