4001V63 "PMC" Model ???'s

Post by teeder »

What can you tell me about these basses? I know it was for the Japanese market, but what makes it different from the standard V63? I've only seen left handed versions. Were any made righty? What years were they made? Anyone have pictures? Does anyone know for sure what case may have come with them?

Thanks,
Kevin

They were only left handed, Kevin. I think the only difference from a lefty V63 is that the headstock on a lefty V63 is a lefty headstock. The headstock on the PMC is righty. I don't know how many were made or what years they were made. Every one I've ever seen has the silver tolex case.

Thanks Jeff. If everything works out right I may be getting a new (old) V63. It was originally bought in Japan, so I was just trying to get my ducks in a row.

You're welcome Kevin. I also forgot to add that all the PMC models as far as I know were Fireglo.

Good luck!

Thanks! It's a nice dark Fireglo, April 1992. I hope it works out!

They were available to any dealer that knew about them, not just Japan, according to John Hall. There was little or no promotion on these, just a SKU number in the price sheet. I believe all of them were made in 1999, mine was made in May '99. How many? Hmmm. JH said 'quite a few' but not too many are floating around. I'm speculating, but I'll say a few dozen at most...

Thanks John. The one I'm looking at must be a V63.

There probably weren't many MGs made--that one is the only one I can recall seeing, Brian...there were probably more than one I'd think, but where are they I wonder...

As far as I know non were mapleglo, otherwise it would not be a PMC.

PMCs were fireglo left handed with right handed headstocks.

Brian, did it have a upside down headtock and was it left handed?

It would resemble a left handed c64.

The left handed v63 had a left handed headstock.
