The Mark of Cain

Post by rick_ovic »

Last Saturday night I went out to see The Mark of Cain for the first time at The Corner Hotel, at Richmond in Melbourne.

By way of background, they are a three piece, heavy rock outfit hailing from my home town of Adelaide, South Australia. The band is fronted by John Scott, lead singer and guitarist and he is joined by his younger brother Kim on bass. The drummer hails from the US and also plays with Helmut. The band recorded it's breakthrough album in 1996 with Henry Rollins producing.

I happened to played in a band with John about 20 years ago and my wife was in the same class as Kim at school.

Anyways, the boys are both use Rickenbackers - John has two 330s - one in FG and the other JG whilst Kim's has a 4003FG and an Ibanez 4003 JG copy.

If anyone ever says that Rickenbackers are only good for 60s jangly sounds, put 'em on to The Mark of Cain....it'll cut their head off! It's been quite a while since I've been to a gig where the volume parted my hair!

The support band, also a three piece, used Rickenbackers...a 330MG and a 4003. It was very cool seeing Rickenbackers all over the place. Good thing I chose to wear my very fashionable gold logo white Rickenbacker t-shirt.

Check out the band's website if you're interested in learning more www.tmoc.com.au
