Just got a new 370/12. Can I perform this operation myself? Is there a lot of soldering?

Tonebender: I am interested in your comments regarding the difference in sound as a result of your toaster installation.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Last week I unwound 5 11k toaster pickups back to 7.4k using the instructions on this site. It really transformed the '99 325v63, it was kinda muddy before but now it sings. (i have also rewired the middle pickup to the 5th knob using the instructions here)
I also unwound my '92 360v64 pickups so now all three of my rics have the same volume/tone pickups (+'02 660/12). I liked the sound of it before but now it can be a lot brighter as well as what i had, with a little adjustment of the tone controls. Its my main guitar and used for a wide variety of songs in my 70s/80s rock cover band.

Peter-
The sound is fantastic with the toasters. I also have a 360/12v64 w/vintage toasters and now the 370/12 sounds like it. That classic vintage Ric sound. I play thru an AC30. I tried giving the hi-gains a chance but they just don't seem to have that bite. From a cosmetic stand point, the toasters also look better IMHO.
