Anyone ever replace the tube in an AD60VT? Tell me how to do it.

Wrap duct tape around as much of the tube protruding as you can and patiently wiggle it out. Only way I know.

Yep, that worked fine. Thanks. It was harder getting the new tube in than it was to take out the old one. Have you ever had a problem with yours distorting if you push it? It sounds like a loose speaker, kinda chunky sounding. It doesn't matter what setting it's on. I thought the tube replacement would fix it.

Glad the "trick" worked out.

I experience only the natural distortion of the amp. The AD60 and AD120 series amps use a 12AX7 configured as a power amp (not a pre-amp as many believe). The REMS modeler handles the pre-amp duties. The 12AX7's are set up as 1 watt power amp tubes that then feed a SS linear booster amp circuit.

Mine distorts just like any tube amp should, when cranking the master volume past 4 o'clock. (My Gerd Weigel boutique amp starts to break up around 9 as well). I'm not sure if this is the distortion you mean. When running the Gain at 12 o'clock, the Volume below 3 o'clock and the master below about 2 o'clock, mine stays clean with the "Fender" models, the AC-15 and AC-30 (non TB) models, Blues UK and Boutique clean. All the others distort to some extent, as they are models of the high gain or boosted stages of the amps modelled.

I have read of quite a few complaints about the VT versions having issues with the MDF cabinets and baffle boards. I have read no complaints at all about the VTX versions (using birch ply cabs and baffles). Does it sound like your speaker is vibrating against the baffle?

I have had my AD120VTH /AD212 rig now for over three years. It runs every Friday night at 2x15 watt power setting with the master on 3 o'clock, from 8pm until 2am (after being transported from my house to our studio, anywhere from 85°F down to -35°F, 20%RH to 80%RH weather). During the week it runs on the 2x1watt setting (same master V) from 7 or 8pm until midnight. I have never had any issues other than the jacks requiring a shot of cleaner/lube once a week. I have changed the tubes a few times, but that was only to try out different brands of 12AX7 for sound purposes, not because of any failures. (the new JJs are really fine IMO).

All in all the AD120 is my favorite amp for gigging with the band because of it's versatility. I use my GW for jam nights (smaller rig, 1x12), and events where I don't need every possible sound from the 60's 70's and 90's.

Yeah, it's definitely volume related. I think I'll turn it into a practice/recording amp and use my other Vox AC30CC1.
Thanks again!!
