360/12 Pickup Replacement, etc.

Last night I completed the modifications to my new 360/12 Fireglo. Initially the nut had to go, which gave me the opportunity to try different nut materials with the new spacing. I finally settled on cow bone. I wish it were black, but hey, it works.

As soon as the box filled with two scatterwounds, vintage knobs, twelve saddle bridge, and new strings came, I went to work. I did the entire modification in less than two hours, including stringing it up. The following little problems were noted:

1. The backing plate for each pickup MUST be
aligned so that the center height adjustment
screw fits easily in its clearance hole. I
suggest keeping the four screws that hold the
backing plate to the pickup loose until final
checks before cranking it up.

2. Make sure that your soldering iron has a
hot tip.

3. Having calibrated nut files according to the
string guages are a real help in filing the
new bridge. The strings fit perfectly in
their slots.

4. Use a capo to hole the string, one at a time,
when you put the new strings on. The Dunlop
trigger type worked fine, and elevated the
neck off the dining room table to help me
wind up the strings.

The result of two hours work is a perfectly set up
360/12 that's easy to play, and the new vintage knobs give it an unusual vibe. I'll try it out through a Valvetronix 60 watt amp tonight.

Nice work Sneakers. Just wondering how you like your 360/12 through the Valvetronix 60.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm
