Original finishes?

Post by kennyhowes »

JH (or anyone), is there a way to find out the original finish on Rics from the serial number? I have two '60s models which are refins and I'm curious about the original color.

Jus' wondering.

You could look around inside the jack holes or control cavities to see if there might be any remnant patches of original finish overspray, though if it was Mapleglo, obviously you would have a problem..

Don....this is true as I have discovered that the 360 I bought new in 58' must have been refinished at the factory from Fireglow to Mapleglow. There is red paint in the truss rod cavity and a in a couple of small areas on the side of the slash in the top.
I have never removed the pickups so I don't know what is under them.
In addition, there is a extra screw hole under the gold painted truss rod cover located about 1 inch toward the nut from the pointed tip of the cover.
Dang, I really need to get a digital camera so we can all look at this thing. There are a few other things we could all discuss about this instrument as well.
Oh...almost forgot.....there is a paint run in the Mapleglow on the top above the slash....if you can believe that!! At the time, there was no way I was going to complain or send it back!
