Some time last year over at Fark (I think) someone posted asking if a cat's anus touches the surface the cat is sitting on (because they had a cat who had a habit of sitting on the kitchen counter, I think). No one seemed to know off hand but there were various suggestions as to how one could find out. Favorite one: put lipstick on its butthole and see if a mark was left after it got up and walked away.

I'm not sure what about this thread reminded me of that...
