Wolfmother

Post by bobcat »

Okay, my friend was watching FUSE and he said there was this band called Wolfmother whose video came up and told me I absolutely had to check these guys out . . . so I did. WOW!

Imagine what would happen if you took Cream, Led Zeppelin, the Who, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, and Rush and mixed them all together. And then make sure the music is not just a bunch of radio-friendly retro-wannabe singles (so basically, make sure it's not Jet). That's Wolfmother. They're a power trio from Australia.

Why is this on the Ric forum? Because the bassist PROMINENTLY plays what I believe is a Mapleglo 4003 (I couldn't tell exactly, the video was shot through a color filter), and it's UP FRONT in the mix, and it isn't trying to be a Fender imitation. Quite awesome.

The only downside is that the album, as far as I know, is only available as an import to the US, so it costs like $30 on Amazon.com. I dunno how much it costs elsewhere. But yeah, check these guys out. They're amazing!

I think the Wolfmother bass is an old 4001 (with skunk stripe), as part of their image is that all of their gear is old 70s stuff. I also wouldn't say they are a mix of "Cream, Led Zeppelin, the Who, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, and Rush" - I'd say a mix of Zeppelin, Zeppelin and more Zeppelin!

I dunno, I see a lot of the Who, as well as a bit of Rush in there with the bass being up front and the drum fills (John Bonham certainly didn't play like this guy) . . . yeah, and Sabbath too. There's definitely Zeppelin there, but that's not the only thing, for sure.
