I'm a young bass player, and i want to know if the discontinued Vox T-60 sounds good or not? It seems good, i mean if not i will buy a Laney or something.

Ross: I'm sorry to hear that the T60 has been discontinued. I had intended to buy one. I have a T25, and it's a great little amp. I'm not really a bass player, but I thump around on a Hofner V62 Beatle bass sometimes.

hey Ross, I gotta say that (html speaking) that is one of the slickest web sites I've seen. great job!... however your one audio file wouldn't play for me. Where are you located? I dont know about the T60, but I use a VOX AC15 guitar amp (with a Ric 360) and it is like no other amp... simply the best.

Vox needs to make a bass amp that has some real power behind it.

It's be a tough uphill battle. Ampeg has had this market sewn up for 30 years, plus.

The original Vox T60 was a transistorized amp. That's what 'T' stood for, and that's why the T60 head was so small in size. I used to know a guy who used an old AC50 head to drive an old T60 speaker cabinet. That rig sounded pretty good.

RE: Ampeg has had this market sewn up for 30 years, plus.

Paul, did you mean a particular level of the bass amp market? Meaning the boutique or high-end market? That may have been true at one time, but I don't think so any more. Or did you mean just bass amplifiers in general?

[Note: As stated elsewhere, I am the proud owner of an Ampeg bass amp head.]

The bass combo, head and cabinet market has become, as I’m sure you know, quite diversified and crowded over the last few years with lots of vendors vying for the novice / beginner / entry level market all the way to the high end / professional lines. And even though it seems like every band that comes on Letterman is playing Ampeg and I don’t have any statistics at hand but I’d imagine that Ampeg’s market share is well challenged by these (and other) manufacturers:

Aguilar – Ashdown – Avatar - Bag End – Carvin – Crate – Eden – Epifani – Fender -
Gallien Krueger - Genz Benz – Hartke - Hughes and Kettner – Ibanez – Kustom – Laney - Line 6 - Markbass (no relation) – Mesa – Peavey – SWR - Tech 21 - Trace Elliot – Warwick – Yorkville

I bought one of the last T60's I could find from Humbucker Music (online website, but located in Georgia).

I emailed Vox to ask why the T-60 was discontinued and they said because of the "waning popularity".

How does that T60 sound Alisha? I was going to get one but they disappeared too soon for me to do so.
