Short Scale vs Long Scale

For a short scale RIC, what about a 325B? JetGlo of course. Toasters like the 4005...

I was out at an open jam tonight ... I took my jetglo 4003 4-2-5 ... when you go up the neck and start with the low b it is like playing a short scale bass ... at the 5th fret you have a E at the 10th fret you have an A ... you get that sweet bassy short scale sound ...

Jerry Jones makes a long horn copy that is supposed to be much better than the originals.
I'd go with a 4003 if I were you, you'll get used to the longer scale quickly.

On page 55 of the latest (May-2006) issue of Bass Player magazine, there is a review of the latest version of the Danelectro Longhorn bass. The review is mostly positive. The price ($400 street) is really reasonable. Check it out if you can. I looked for an online link, but apparently it's not published yet.

Yeah, I didn't mention Jerry Jones Longhorns 'cause I figured they were out of his budget, I currently have 2 JJ Longhorn basses, 4 and 6-string.

Hello! I'm new to the forum, but this topic is right up my alley. You see, I have teeny, tiny hands (even for a girl.) I started playing on a Fender Mustang, and I also have a Danelectro Longhorn. They are both fantastic, but I recently made the leap to long-scale with a 1974 4001 and I'm doing fine. If you want a Rick, you should go for it.

Welcome Stacy, how did you end up with a nice old 74 for your first Rick?

Did you consider new, or do you prefer the 4001?

It is nice to have some girls posting here. We are apparently mostly white male baby-boomers. Not that there is anything wrong with that but a little variety and other perspectives are certainly refreshing. The younger guys (Jacob, John D., and Nate) have added a nice dimension to the discussions. They often remind me of the way I was 20 years ago.

Thanks for the warm welcome! To answer your question, J gary, I prefer the 4001 since it has a thinner neck than the 4003. I also have thing for vintage gear. My Danelectro and Mustang are both reissues, so I was really wanting an older Rickenbacker. My 4001 isn't museum quality, but it's a great player and I love the way it sounds.
