Hmmm... i'm actually full of quotes which could serve as excuse for my lack of playing skills

I also have trouble with playing with a pick and excuse this saying Mark Knopfler also plays without a pick (not that i'm hoping to reach the same heights as far as playing technique is concerned...

)
Not 100 % sure about women being ideal bass players - in any case, bass is quite a heavy instrument and it takes more effort to play it... And i'm not really willing to compete with the guys, i'm not hoping to reach the same level of technique, maybe E G A G would be my dizzying height...

As far as i am concerned, i was quite happy with my rhythm-guitarist/lyricist background position - making as much noise out of acoustic guitar as possible. The best "compromise" would be a 4080, i'd suggest - like, playing the bass in the background and suddenly jumping off to guitar neck when nobody seems to be watching

And - i had to say it again - there's nothing like a good bass solo!

Your profile says that you are in Russia but your name is more Irish/Scottish sounding. Not being totally familiar with Russian names I played it safe. I hope you don't mind.

, and while i was asked a few times whether i'm a "natural" Russian or not, nobody ever doubted my gender

. In fact, i'm not the one to complain since i once mistook a new female forum member (Vanya Blackabee, IIRC) for a male - her name sounds like a Russian name... of a boy...

Hey Kaia, sorry I took a bit long to reply. Well, my ex-girlfriend has honed her bass playing skills by playing... at home. She has never considered playing in a band - she says it's not worth it. She's a top management secretary, so I think she does have a point haha.

Sergio, I think that is cool of course that she is playing,but I can't imagine never going to a jam or something.............of course, after the jam comes the desire to get a band together, then comes the frustration of dealing with musicians..........Blech! I still get bitten by the bug every so often. I would love to have a band again, and I have a good day job, too! Getting 4-5 people together to practice isn't any easier now than it was as a kid!

Sheena, are you Russian? If so, good English, if not, what are you doing there?

Hey Kaia, welcome to the Ric forum.... You've just discovered the best hangout on the Net for people who love Rickenbackers! So nice to see another girl here.... I'm not really a bass player--I'm a rhythm guitarist (trying to get better on leads) and a songwriter, as well as an extreme Rickenfan--so I do have a Ric bass in my collection, a 4001V63 in the coveted rare Jetglo.... I love playing it once in a while, though I certainly wouldn't claim to be very good at it, LOL! I haven't posted anything in the bass forum in a while, but I saw your name and knew I had to welcome another Rickensister into the fold, LOL!

Ahem... "girl power", huh?

Kaia, in short. Formal: Was born, went to kindergarten, then to school, then to the university, currently working as an "editor of translations" (reading&"cleaning" the books translated from English into Russian). Informal: started playing my parents' nerves right at the moment i was born (or maybe even earlier), then switched to... i don't remember exactly how this thing was called, "triola" perhaps. Then guitar, of course (acoustic) and songwriting. Was in two bands, both broke up unfortunately, but, as i have mentioned somewhere before, i had nothing to do with that.

My nowadays band consists of my 8-year-old daughter&myself. A killer duo, i must add... or so our neighbors say.

Oh yeah... and still waiting for my first - electric - Ric... a month or two left for me to wait, and then - neighbors beware!

That explains the good English! I don't know what a triola is. My mother used to play the balalaika, but I couldn't figure that thing out, it is like EEA or something for tuning, which makes no sense to me but then someone broke it and she gave it away! Bummer, I wish I had it!

So what kind of a Ric are you waiting for?
