Proud new father of a 4001....

OK..I couldn't help myself....There was a 1977 jetglo 4001 in a music store for close to 3 years...It sounded like hell...no tone, no volume...just a muddy mummble...Neck was out..
I asked how much...they said they would sell it to me at cost just to get it out of the music store. since nobody liked this bass...
So the guys in the music store let me monkey with it... I found a bunch of wireing blunders that I fixed...fixed the toggle switch, then rewired the pots and then bypassed the treble cap...Next i put on a set of Roto-Sounds 105-45 ...then I adjusted the neck...Well, this bass was a sleeper and the lonely bass that everyone banished is now sounding 200% better...Everyone at the store couldn't put the bass down...It sounding amazing even for the slap players...
It had thounderous lows and absolutely not one dead spot..The bass had a thick mid-range and solid bottom...with excelent high end and it was LOUD!! The low E was far from weak..it jumped...
SO I walked away with the bass for $800

I now have another Ric in the stall

Excellent! A great lesson for anyone. Always check out the details. A lot of the time easy fixes will turn a dud into a real player.

restoring old 70s ric basses is a lot of fun and rewarding ... my problem is when I do it I usually put too much quality into the project and I don't make much money ...
