I have a feeling i'll be in the minority on this forum, but i'm a big, big fan. I just saw this video with one of his sidemen (Mike Mogis?) using a 360/12. Pretty cool.

First exposure to the group, wow.

Not my typical taste but hooked me due to the refreshing break from the pretty boy/girl studio groups so often forced upon us.

Thanks for the heads up John. I'm always interested in hearing a real band that follows it's own drummer so to speak.

Smashing the instruments has been done before, but these guys meant it. Can't decide if it's brave or crazy. I like both thought processes but get squeamish when watching. I couldn't tell but I hope the Ric made it out alive.

I saw the 360 laid gently down as the players left. No real harm done.

Interesting stuff. Music with a message. That's unusual, unfortunately.

Conor Oberst is one of the most talented lyricists of my generation. Any Dylan fans should definitley check 'em out. It's a modern take on folk.

BTW, there's usually Tele's and Gretsch's with the band. First time i've ever seen a Rick amongst em.

I suppose I am destined for the remainder of a life of musical fuddy duddy-ness. At first blush, my thought is, "That's music?" But I am open minded enough to know that every new generation brings something fresh to the party. And thank goodness otherwise, you'd be stuck with the likes of me!

Being new here, it does bring a smug smile to see a relevant "genius" using a guitar that I had the presence of mind to just purchase!

I'm open minded too, Dave. I also know what I like and dislike! I appreciate the talents or otherwise of others regardless of the musical genre....... problem is, if you asked me who it was on the clip in a few days time I wouldn't have a clue because I disliked it! By saying that I am not damning the artists, BTW......

Some things just don't stick....

Well, it is kind of funny - the sour point is, however, the interview after the show. Mean, he doesn't say anything "thought-provoking", as many a young "genius" would usually do... And... ahem... i don't like his haircut!

I also was initially taken back by their appearance and sound. The overall sound seemed disorganized and vague. But as this appeared to be a real "live" performance, bless you boys, I hung on to see what developed. The Ric helped as I love seeing younger groups with them.

I believe it would be the chorus is where the song grabbed me, when he unleashed that big voice. The passion and vigor of our young champion seemed to focus the music and offered a sign of credibility.

I found the interview even more enticing. He had just finished quite a performance, yet sat there like a church mouse surrounded by cats. No big mouth BS, pontificating about his music and how important he is to the world, women and mankind.

I liked the kid. A genius? I'm not sure, but he showed great wisdom and sensitivity by not attempting to run his mouth or agenda during the short 30 second snippet they gave him.

Sheena, I agree about the hair. I would offer that it reflects a sort of purity as it appears he is not "handled" by managers, groupies or hanger ons. He perhaps goes to his own drum which can be a hopeful sign that there may be something special here. If we start seeing leather pants and blown dry hair, the end is near.

Quite agree about the interview, i was just kinda kiddin', you know. Mean, if somebody is claimed to be a new genius, then people kind of expect to hear something wise, a new concept/vision etc. from him. "A new Bob Dylan?" - "There's certainly worse things to be called..." That's kinda cool.

And i'd suggest, it's much better to be inspired by Beethoven than, say, some Britney Spears...

Amen, dear Britney, it's to the point I feel sorry for her. Seems she is working all she's got, she just didn't get enough raw material to build much.

Kinda reminds me of Marilyn Monroe. Sweet kid blessed with some natural gifts, did great until the wolfs attacked.

Well, it appears she is a good kisser at least.
