Red dot fret markers on the binding of neck

Post by xcoyle »

I picked up this 483

http://cgi.ebay.com/Rickenbacker-480-With-Hard-Case-6-String-Electric_W0QQitemZ7414695634QQcategoryZ41439QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

The serial number is ND 1976, I also have FG 483 ND 1974. Both have the red dot inlays on the side binding. Was this a thing in the 70's? Anyone have models with them?

David, for some reason we used Red side dot/fret
marker material when we ran out of the black stuff. Don't know why, it was in the supply room and when Dick Burke said use this, we did. It wasn't used as a special thing, but at random, mostly on the 480's as I remember.

Thanks Dale. The 480's were the redheaded stepkids!

I wondered why that auction ended early! Nice acquisition, David!

Red was used for a time in 1963 as well.

I had a '59 (or maybe '60) 360 with red dots at one point. Might have been a 360F. Might have been both.
