When it rains, it pours....

Ever have one of those days? This morning my husband woke up with the flu (body aches and 102 degree fever--my kids had it last week), and he has been exhausted and unable to get out of bed.... and last week our dryer broke down after our number one son tried to dry his wet shoes in it.... so the laundry has been piling up until I found time to wash it all and then haul all the wet clothes to the laundromat.... so I'm going down the stairs with a huge basket of laundry, and since I couldn't see around it I missed the last step and sprained my ankle, ten minutes before I had to get the boys up to the baseball field for their first game of the season, so once I figured out that my ankle wasn't broken I got an ice pack on it, and the pain was so bad I couldn't move, so the boys had to walk about a mile to the ball field and were late.... and then after that they had their final cub scout meeting of the season (by then I had found an ace bandage and could kind of hobble, but still driving them to the meeting was a challenge, as braking the car was a painful experience....) and then since I could barely walk I recruited the boys to help me carry the wet baskets of laundry to the car and then unload them for me at the laundromat.....what a fiasco! They finally just got to bed at 10:00 (they normally go to bed between 8:30 and 9).... I sure hope that my hubby is feeling well enough to get them to school in the morning! We had to do Subway for supper, because neither my hubby nor I were in any condition to prepare a meal.... Okay, I'm just whining, but it sure has been a rough afternoon and evening!

Now that is a really ****** day, Melibee! May I suggest that you stay away from your Ricks until tomorrow?

I know how difficult that will be, but you may be tempting fate........

I pray that your next few days are a whole lot better than the one you just described. It makes one wonder what they did to deserve such an outcome. I trust that you will both get better real soon.

Melissa, I can relate...

Last Wednesday, fuel pump dies in Caravan. Fixed now, $200 later.

Yesterday, our air conditioner takes a dive. Really great, bought it last July and like the supergenius I am the receipt's long gone. It was 90 in NY today...Estimated replacement cost- $200-250.

(Wonder why I haven't bought a B-100R yet?

)

Tonight, my wife asks for a glass of water. Turn on faucet... nada. Spent the next half-hour clamping a rather vital water pipe.

Oh, and my dryer's really, really loud... like a helicopter's taking off in the back of my house. Tearing that apart tomorrow night.

If anything, we can both say we're not alone!

Melissa, you're the hero for taking care of the whole family on a sprained ankle... my wife did the same about 5 years ago. It ought to score some points towards a new Rick, if nothing else! Good luck, I hope things turn up for you soon....

Thanks for all the kind words, guys.... Was able to get up this morning and get the kids off to school, and can hobble about a bit faster than last night....the ankle is much less sore and the swelling has gone down a lot. So today I am thankful that it is not broken, and that I am a little more mobile than I was last night, LOL! Sometimes it just takes a really bad day to make us thankful for the things we normally take for granted, like being able to move!

I won't be mowing the lawn today, or vacuuming, but I can certainly sit at my computer and help my husband with the home business, since he's gotten way behind from being sick....

Since the school year is over now (at least here) and kids are on vacation... Well, in short: Mousie has invented a new game. She never liked chutes before. But now it's quite different since there's a huge puddle in front of it. No way to escape it if you slide down the chute fast enough. Yes, i'm judging by my own experience. I didn't believe Mousie cannot avoid splashing in that puddle & getting dirty head to toe, so she encouraged me to try it...
(and BTW, the hot water is cut off until Friday - what a coincidence!)

Thanks again.... Jerry, I think I'll go take your advice while I sip my morning coffee--and hopefully play it this evening, if my ankle's not too gimpy--the case is already in the family room so I won't have to walk more than seven or eight steps to get to the couch with it.... BTW, the color in person is much, much prettier than in the calendar--the calendar color is way too pinkish/fuschia.... In real life it is a deep, rich, voluptuous purple that is amazing to behold.

Paul, the Subway Tuscan chicken was actually really good on the Italian herb and cheese bread with all the toppings.... Better than anything I could have made last night!
