Other Beatles Guitars

Post by leesh »

There have been a lot of reissues out there as far as Beatles guitars (the Epiphone Texans, Casino's, Gibsons, etc). What do you guys have and like and what are just overpriced signature guitars?

Those damn V63 basses. Way too much money and not even a sharktooth. Somebody needs to dump one of those monstrosities on me for the tiny bit they're worth. Image
What do you mean the Bass is too loud???

Nice try, Bob.... I'm not much of a bass player, but I'm still KEEPING mine! Image

Well, my '94 V63 FG may count. Also, a Hofner Cavern RI, and a Hofner V62 RI. Overpriced? Yeah I think so. Especially the Hofners. I appreciate the old-world artisan mentality, but, really not alot of substance there! Bottom line, If Macca used anything else, Hofners would be 400 dollar basses forever. Maybe.

Although I don't equate weight with worth, Hofners do feel like long-necked violins. A bit fragile-feeling, although I know better.

7900. Eesh.

Wow!! I could say "get a life" Paul, but I'm thinking yours is currently pretty exciting and very fulfilling.

I still fail to see how you find time to whack in as many posts in this place as you do!

Congrats, mate!! Image

I'm very happy with my recent Hofner V62 Beatle Bass ($1200) and my '96 Gibson J160E ($1500). New Hofners are built just like they've always been built (same as it ever was, same as it ever was). I may buy another like a Club Bass or a Cavern Bass. I think my NOS J160E plays better than any of the newer J160E's that I've tried.

I think the JL Casino is one of the best guitars I've owned.
Have a Hofner club, but I like the feel of my departed '67 Violin better. Would still consider a '63 reissue.
Love my Rick V63 bass. 1997 re-issues (I've got two) are fantastic. Need a 330 for comparison!

Ken: My NOS '96 J160E was built by Gibson in their Bozeman, Montana acoustic shop. I got it from an independent guitar collector/dealer from Austin, Texas. He had ordered (5) of these guitars from Gibson. He sold the others and kept this one for himself, but never played it. I got it a couple years ago in mint condition. Here's a picture:

Getting back to the original question about overpriced reissue guitars -- how about Paul's signed Epiphone Texan reissue, only 40 made, for $40,000 each on Musician's Friend. Who here on the forum is going to step up? Come on, now!
