I have a version of Let it be without the wall of sound over the top, just the five of them, the one where John's lost his piece of paper thingy. I'm putting it on now.
I really liked him.

I did not realise that their association went all the way back to the clubs in Hamburg. Ringo must be in shock. I know I was yesterday.

Today is a day for remembering, for me at least.

There's a good obit on him in the NY Tmes. Pretty sad he blew through all his money. I guess that's what happens to you when you "make it" at age 10 in such a dysfunctional business.

To have written top charting hits and have worked with superstars yet have felony assault and fraud charges against you, talk about highs and lows.

I wonder, if he hadn't gotten out of the U.S. and made it to London, if we'd be talking as much about him today...or even know his name.

Sorta like Jimi that way...

dunno.... Preston was an amazing talent. I think he would have been prominent either way, but its certainly true that his relationship with The Beatles put him on the map. Geeee... he was pretty young when he was at the Get Back sessions, eh? 22? 23?

My favorite Billy Preston story is about him convincing Mick Jagger to go with him to church. Mick wanted to hear a real deal Gospel choir in its native setting, so along he went.

The thing I'll always remember about Billy is that incredible smile. When you look at the "Let it Be" and "Concert for Bangladesh" films, you can see sheer joy when he was playing.
