Pics requested of Rics with thumbrests

Post by anoukane »

Tomorrow the 4003 Jetglo of Paul will arrive at my home. I already have a black pickguard and vintage knobs and a thumbrest. Now I'm not sure if I'll install the thumbrest
If I will put the thumbrest on, I will install it in this position.

Have any of you guys ever put a thumbrest on your Ric? If so, could you show me some pics?
P.S I have the transparent thumbrest from Pickguardian..

Jetglo of Paul. Sounds like a band name.

the thumbrests went on the old basses with bigger pickguards ... when you put it on a smaller pickguard then it is not really "right" but it is cool anyway ... and actually it is a finger rest ...

Philip, glad to hear the Jetglo is getting there that fast!

Jeff, not sure about that. My '72 has the "smaller" pickguard and came stock with the finger rest:

This bass is currently undergoing transformation at Paul W.'s, hope to see photos soon.

Paul's right, 4001s had the finger-rest/pull on them until late 1972 if not later, both of mine have them...Oct./Nov. '72 respectively.

They were also mounted higher on the 70s basses, as pictured on Paul's '72 above.

Lefty, my 12/72 does not have the finger pull.

My Jetglo (early 72) does..

Does the flat side of the Finger Rest has to face to the left or to the right?

The flat side faces 'up' or toward the strings...

Here is my 4001V63 with a Pickguardian finger rest and pickguard.

I positioned it there after looking at many photos for comparison.
