The cost of a refinish job

I know it must have been discussed here before but i'm thinking of having my 4003 Mapleglo refinished to Jetglo. I have always wanted a "Black" 4001/3 (being a Geddy Lee fan)and there are so many cracks in the clear coat i figured it's a good time to get it refinished...
The question is who is a good person to do the job and whats the cost?

Any idea on worst case cost for refinish and neck work (truss rod replacement and straightening)?

There is a local music shop here who's web site shows a late 70's 4001 in their repair shop, that supposedly needs new truss rods, neck straightening, and maybe pickups. I was wondering if it would be worth it if say I got it for around $300 and had it refurbed. I would have to get somebody good to do it (like Paul).

This one is a black '76 4001 with horseshoe pickup. It is listing for $1200 right now but a guy at the store said they'd negotiate, as he saw in his database that it needed alot of work.

How are the '76 models usually? Worth fixing?

Paul charges around $600 for a re-fin and around $300 for a re-fret. Then when you add in the pickups, wiring, a new pickguard, taking care of the truss rods, and the $300 cost of the bass to begin with....things can add up fast.

The finished bass would probably be super nice, and you can pick any crazy color you like. But its not gonna be cheap.

I have a '76 4001(and 3 other late 70's 4001s). They all have great necks and great tone. But a '76 4001 is not worth big bucks. Recently, extremely nice examples on ebay have been selling for $1200-1800 for the more rare colors. But generally a nice late 70's Rick can be had for around $1000.00.

$1200.00 for a '76 JG that needs as much work as you say it does is way too much.

You live in Sandwich, Greg?

A few years back I went through Sandwich and ate a sandwich at a place called Sandwich Sandwich. Is Sandwich sandwich still there? Have you ever had a Sandwich Sandwich sandwich?

Yes I do Jeff. Funny olde English names for towns around. I think it's called Sandwich's Sandwiches, and yes it's still there, right in the old village part of town. It's starting to get crowded around here with summer tourist season getting into gear!

Funny thing..I use to go to Cape Cod all the time..Back in the 80's.... I remember going to Sandwich and eating at a place called Sandwich..wow..
I also remember eating at a great prime rib place called Blooms.... I think my favorite pizza was in Dennisport called Heavenly Pizza...
There was a small chain of burger shops called A&W... Great RootBeer!!!!
Of all the coolest place to eat there was a tiny small 8 seat dinner called "We-Pack-It" in Dennisport near the beach.... I once took a trip to Provincetown to look around..well it took less than 2 minutes to realize something was not right... I thought I was in San Fransicko...
Cape Cod is beatifull.... I hope it is still the same...

You guys know this area pretty well! I work walking distance from the Hyannis (Barnstable) Airport.

It is nice out here...friendly people for the East Coast. I moved to Massachusetts from Minnesota when I was 14, and never really got the same feeling for the people out here as in the Midwest. However, I've been on the Cape for almost 7 years now and the people out here are really nice. Much more quality-of-life oriented. Great place to raise a family.

Provincetown is quite a colorful place. What a crazy balance of lifestyles, between the old fishing, whale watching touristy types and the gay community. Pretty eclectic!
