It's a bit of work...but amazingly easy to adapt to. I also play a Thunderbird, so the scale is not a problem, I guess it's all in what you're used to. The short scale would be a lot of fun, though...I'd love to take one for a spin, and the neck dive might be more tolerable.
Like Ronn, I used to play 12 exclusively, all night, 3 sets, but now I use it on about 20% of the songs in our set. LOVE the sound...it's HUGE.

Yeah Steve, no neck-dive on the shorty Hamer 12. The bodies weigh so much it's not a problem. The whole bass weighs about 12lbs.
I do miss the fuss playing a 12-string bass created, always a great conversation starter between sets. Can't really bust it out at an Eggmen show tho'.
I'm seriously jonesing for a "real" band again.

I get the "What the *$&# is THAT?" a lot. Or the "Wow, I never heard of a 12-string BASS before".
At one of my shows, a girl was in the audience who happened to be a D'Addario string rep. I fell in love immediately.
Her opening line was, "I like the way you handle that 12." It has since become part of band lore.
