So.Central Rain video -- no Rick guitar? (REM)

Post by rkbsound »

I saw the video for S.Central Rain today for the first time in a while. I always thought that Peter Buck was playing a Rickenbacker. He's clearly playing a Gretsch. But I could swear that in that video he played a Rick. Is my memory that bad? Could they have, for some odd REM reason, made more than one video or made a change?

Is this the video where Stipe sings "live" while the rest of the band mime to their recorded parts?

I've only seen one clip of this song, and it's the one you're referring to, and Mills is on a 4001 and Peter's on a Gretsch (a Tennessean?). Funny, as the 12-string is so prominent on this song.

Stipe's performance is wonderful though.

Is Peter using a Rickenbacker in the "Wolves, Lower" video? I've never seen it. I would guess not, he's probably on the black Telecaster Deluxe.

Just watched "Wolves, Lower" - yay for YouTube.com! - and Peter's on the 360 JG.

I love early REM videos. Every video of theirs, to this day, has at least one good shot of a very bored and uninterested looking Peter Buck. I think he practices this.
