Firefox and new posts

Post by shinynewtoy »

I emailed Peter offline thinking the question might be a little silly and in the interest of valuable bandwidth... however, the esteemed Mr. McCormick (who, BTW, was very quick in his response!) thought that there might be others here who might want to know the answer. So, thanks to the beauty of copy-and-paste, here it is...

Peter...

I just switched over to Firefox a couple of weeks ago after growing tired of the vulnerability of IE... but this is where the dumb question comes into play. For reasons unbeknownst to me, ever since I changed browsers the new post icons never update... for a man with no life who spends probably more time that I should on the board, I'm pretty sure that 6/17 shouldn't constitute a new post! Is there a setting within my profile that I might have overlooked? It's still nothing more than a minor annoyance but I'm one of those typical Gen X musician types who likes everything simple and my remaining brain cells knot up and cramp at the thought of excessive complication.

Thanks in advance for any help you could suggest. Thanks as well for providing us with the forum... I'm pretty sure you've noticed how much we appreciate it!

I switched to Firefox months ago, and have gradually gotten used to not seeing the "new" icons by new posts.... Now I just look at the date and time on topics I'm interested in to see if anything's changed since my last visit. Kind of a PITA, I suppose, but I've gotten used to it.

I use Firefox & see the "new" signs just fine. My wife is the computer genius, & I think it had something to do with cookies. I'll ask her.

I MUCH prefer Firefox over IE btw....

If you're talking about the "shiny" yellow arrow heads on the topics page then I see them with both the MS Windows and Mac OSX versions of Firefox.

Bob and Melibee, make sure you're running the latest version of Firefox, 1.5.0.4; this is a fairly recent update, and must be downloaded from the Firefox home page. You can check your current version from the Help/About Mozilla Firefox window.

Thanks, Gary! I'll have my hubby check it out--he's the one who takes care of all the technical stuff....I'm just the one who gets frustrated when it's not working like it's supposed to, LOL! He'll probably want to update his Firefox at the same time....

I've had no problems using Firefox for this (or most other) Forum(s). There is one forum that did not work with Firefox but I have forgotten which one it was.

However, on a related note ...

The Firewall administrators where I work have cut off any sites that use port 443 (SSL) or any sites that require any kind of authentication because of recently discovered vulnerabilities.
So you will be seeing a lot fewer posts from me for the near future.
(I know how disappointed you all must feel.)
