I don't see the 4004 neck as wide, but then I have larger hands. I find it really easy to play, a real joy, and like you, Mark, I seem to be drawn to it. I had to go home at supper tonight and play the 4003 as it was looking at me so forlornly today while I vacumed - it had been quite a while since I played it. I also want to do more finger style with the 4004. Maybe the tone, or the way my arm is comfortable on the body, or the neck feel. Maybe all of them.....

Don't call me Mr.!!! Image

The 4004 does have wider string spacing at the bridge than the 4000/1/2/3/5 so the neck is wider near the body. I prefer the narrower necks on my other Ricks as my hands are not that big. Now if you had hands like these...

The 4004Cii with the toasters used to be mine; I did all the mods to it. The two truss rod channels between the neck toaster and the end of the fingerboard are courtesy of John Hall and Co. They did a super job of it! Image
