Nice live video -- although the audio was a bit rough, it looks as though they have a very tight live performance.

I think it's interesting how much Case looks like Paul Westerberg in it.

And, to a certain extent, sounds like him. And the fact that both band's heydays were during the same years.

Thanks for posting that Glenn. At first I thought it'd be the usual MTV style video of that song, but I'm really glad it was a live performance. I just wish that the source was listed - at the end when an announcer comes on it sounds like maybe he's saying "Rockpalast" but it's cut off, so I don't know.

I've got a Rockpalast DVD of a Little Feat concert, so I'm wondering if the Plimsouls were ever on that show (or if they ever played in Germany back then).

Anyway, yes they're a very tight band live. Then, and even now - did you all see the pics my wife took when we saw them playing in Nashville last month? I believe my Webshots address is in my profile here, so check it out. If not, I'll post it later.

They all still sound great and move around the stage just like they did way back when too. Oh, but Peter Case looks a bit different these days. But don't we all? ;-)

I just saw something...perhaps a Knack doc., where a recent clip of Case comes on.

It's good to hear they get on well enough to get back together. So few bands do. Maybe they never had success to the point that it spoiled them.

There is a lot of You Tube footage from Rockpalast. I figured it was a venue, not a show. But that makes more sense.

I will check out the webshots, Steve. Thanks.

Yeah, I don't know if Rockpalast is a venue or a TV show (like our old "Rock Concert" or whatever), but I do know there are a lot of DVD's available for sale from that "show" - I need to watch the Little Feat one we've got again to determine exactly what it was. My initial thoughts are that it was a live German TV show though.

As for the Plimsouls' success, I know what you mean. They were successful (in my book) but I'm afraid that most people only saw them in the "Valley Girl" movie and didn't know of them beyond that. Like maybe they were a fake band in a movie bar scene and that was it.

Obviously they were much more than that, and still are - whenever they get back together, that is. And that always seems to be whenever Peter Case gets the itch to rock out - instead of concentrating on his solo blues/folk acoustic career. He's put out a bunch of great solo albums but you know how it's impossible to lose that "want to rock and roll, loudly" feeling? Seems to me that the rest of the band relies on him to finally get around to "get back" to that realization every once in a while.

I've been friends with Eddie for about 10 years now and I know he's been playing off and on (look up the Fontenelles) but he has regular jobs too. Most notably as a computer animation guy for WB movies. But still, whenever PC wants to reform the P'souls for a while, the other guys are more than willing to do so.

As cool as PC's preferred acoustic stuff is (admittedly it's not "rock band" material), I'll always think he's more suited to rocking out. He knows it too - but I also think it's cool that he's got the opportunity for doing both those kinds of expressions.

Talked to him after a solo acoustic show here a couple years ago for an hour or so and that was the main focus of our conversation. As a player myself, I told him I understand the need/desire to do the solo acoustic stuff, but I also said he really needs to get back with the band - and that I knew he had the need in his soul to rock out too, and he admitted to that fact.

I'm just glad he got it together again and did it. I'm also really glad that they played relatively close to home so we could see it live too. Definitely one of the best bands I've ever seen in my life - and I've seen a *ton* of the greats...

I have a number of Rockpalast programs on DVD-R. They include live shows by XTC, The Jam, and Elvis Costello.

Randy, what kind of a show was it? Did they have a variety of bands doing their current hit song, or did each show feature a band doing a whole concert?

Just asking because my Little Feat DVD is a complete concert, and I'd love to find out if I could get a whole concert by the Plimsouls.

And again, I'm not even sure if this Plimsouls song was taken from a Rockpalast show or not - it just sounded like an announcer said "Rockpa" and that's when the sound cut off at the end.

Fwiw, I know the Plimsouls live album/CD "One Night In America" was recorded a the Phantasy Club in Lakewood, Ohio. My wife's hometown, and a suburb of Cleveland. Originally it was released on a French record lable (we've got it on that) and then quickly went out of print. Good luck getting one of those versions.

Last year it was re-released on the Oglio lable, and I assume it's still available at www.oglio.com

Steve: I believe that Rockpalast was a German TV program that featured a single band on each show. Each show is approximately an hour long. The format is always like a live concert in a studio theater. This generally makes the sound and lighting much better than an actual concert venue performance.

Ah, the wonders of the internet. There appear to be several websites (some only in German) that have archives covering the various performers that have appeared on Rockpalast. A few shows have gotten released commercially, but many others can be found on DVD-R's made from shows taped on VCR's.

I've seen some great clips from it. Paul Collin's Beat, Cheap Trick, etc.
